From Florence’s Renaissance wonders to Assisi’s spiritual serenity, Rome’s ancient marvels and the sun-soaked Amalfi Coast — this unforgettable journey through Italy blends history, culture, cuisine and breathtaking landscapes. Join us as we explore iconic landmarks, savor local traditions and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Tour Highlights

Experience the heart of the Renaissance with a guided walking tour of Florence, featuring the awe-inspiring Duomo, Giotto’s bell tower and Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia Gallery. Cap off the day with a hands-on cooking class at a Tuscan farmhouse — where you’ll create and enjoy a traditional Italian dinner in true countryside style.

ItalySavor the flavors of Tuscany with a winery tour and lunch in Greve in Chianti before stepping back in time in the medieval city of Siena, home to the stunning Piazza del Campo and its gothic cathedral. End the day in the peaceful hill town of Assisi, birthplace of St. Francis, where cobblestone streets and spiritual heritage welcome us for a restful two-night stay.

Visit the Basilica of St. Clare, founder of the Poor Clares and spiritual companion of St. Francis. Enjoy a free afternoon to wander Assisi’s peaceful medieval streets, rich with history and charm.

AssisiStep into history with a guided tour of the iconic Colosseum, where gladiators once battled and the Roman Forum, the heart of ancient Rome’s political and social life. Spend the afternoon discovering the Eternal City at your own pace.

ColosseumExplore the remarkably preserved ruins of Pompeii, frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, offering a rare glimpse into ancient Roman daily life. End the day in the picturesque coastal town of Vico Equense, nestled along the stunning Bay of Naples.

Soak in the breathtaking views of the sparkling Mediterranean as you explore the Isle of Capri. Enjoy a scenic visit to the hilltop town of Anacapri, known for its vibrant charm and stunning vistas, before returning to the mainland.

Amalfi Coast ItalyCelebrate your final day in Italy with a breathtaking drive along the Amalfi Coast, one of the world’s most stunning coastal routes. Enjoy a visit to the charming town of Amalfi, a refreshing limoncello tasting with a local producer and a memorable farewell dinner in Sorrento before returning to Vico Equense.

Christopher Fuhrmann

Christopher FuhrmannChristopher Fuhrmann has been teaching ancient history and Latin at Hope College since 2024 and taught previously at Santa Clara University and the University of North Texas. As a specialist in the history of the Roman Empire, he is especially interested in issues of public order, religious conflict and slavery. He has led several study tours to Italy, and he considers Rome the greatest city in the world today! He loves sharing his enthusiasm for all things Italian (ancient, medieval, Renaissance or modern) and he sees Italy as a country that is incomparably rich for its vibrant culture, traditions and excellent food culture. He looks forward to experiencing this beautiful country with you as fellow travelers.

Amy Borgman

Amy BorgmanAmy serves as the director of donor engagement at Hope College and will be your co-leader on this exciting adventure! Since joining Hope in the fall of 2006, she has played a vital role in mentoring students through the Outreach Center programs and crafting creative, meaningful ways for people to support the college through annual giving. Now in her fifth year on the Donor Engagement Team, Amy finds great joy in helping donors see the tangible impact of their generosity and deepening their connection to Hope’s mission.

Tour Fee

The program fee is $5,795 per person. Based on double occupancy, it includes:

  • Flights from Chicago to Florence and from Naples back to Chicago
  • Land transportation in accordance with the itinerary by deluxe, air-conditioned motorcoach
  • Accommodations for nine nights in first-class hotels
  • Breakfast daily, one lunch and five dinners
  • Experienced Italian tour manager to accompany the group in Italy
  • Sightseeing and admission fees in accordance with the itinerary
  • Tipping and taxes for all included services, including tour personnel gratuities
  • Whisper guides via personal headets
